I was originally going to go with a typical “blog” feel of the posts being listed from top to bottom but I decided to throw in a three-column blog post design. I really like it and I hope you do too!

If you’ve stopped by and noticed the new design, you’ve probably noticed a few things that aren’t quite styled yet. You might also notice I haven’t put any proper photos in my slider on the main page. No worries, that will change very soon. I haven’t had a lot of time in the last few days to work on the site as I started my spring semester at Ivy Tech. I’ve already had three out of the four classes I’ll be taking this semester and I can already tell this semester is going to be incredible fun. I have three classes with my favourite instructor Mark Searles and a handful of good friends. Good things are going to come out of this semester and 2011 in general.

So after a lot of thinking, I decided a few weeks ago it was time to roll out a fresh, new design for the site. Something simpler. Truth is, this site design is nearly a year old and does not reflect my current ability to say the least. I’m extremely proud of the new design and I believe a lot of people will agree! I’ve already gotten great compliments from the few select people I’ve shown the new site design to. Needless to say, I’m excited to get it rolled out, it shouldn’t be too much longer!

So I got the new nav bar up – hurray. I’m pretty happy with it, but I’m not real happy with the landing page of the site in general. My bounce rate is completely horrible, and for good reason. My landing page is ugly, and there is nothing to draw attention. So the next few weeks are going to be spent designing and coding up content for this main landing page.I already have the basic idea in my head of what I’ll be putting up, so keep an eye out for it in the next few weeks if you check back here at all. I hope, if anyone is reading realizes I am still such a huge newbie to the world of web design/development. I am just now at a place where I feel comfortable hand coding CSS and XHTML. I’m still learning to understand PHP, Javascript, MySQL, and all that jazz. I feel good for how much I’ve been able to accomplish, but I’m not where I want to be exactly. I’m still stoked beyond stoked that I have managed to customize my own self-hosted WordPress blog. That was been such a big goal, and I am so happy to have reached it. Now I just have to take all of my other goals, put them in some sort of order, and tackle them one by one! Here is to knowledge.

This summer has not only been hot, but it’s been rough on my husband and I’s guitar store, Secret Sounds Music. My husband Ryan suggested that I get a J-O-B, and to be quite honest, I wasn’t happy about it. Instead of stewing over the possibility of getting a crummy joe job for the summer, I decided to test my knowledge and skills. I began web and graphic design tutoring. Needless to say I have been making a generous amount of income, and more importantly I have been helping a lot of students understand a lot more about the web so far. I love being able to relate with someone when they’re having a really hard time understanding web design, and the complexity that comes with it. It’s not cut and dry like Photoshop or Illustrator can be, it takes genuine interest and persistence. I guess having said that, I am genuinely interested in the web and what it has to offer. I love the idea of taking a beautiful design and bringing it to life with some XHTML and CSS. It drives me in a bizarre way that designing on Photoshop alone can’t really give me. So in a nutshell – I believe the tutoring I’ve begun this summer is a beginning of something much greater on my journey to be the best I can be in my field(s). It’s amazing when you share your knowledge how much you end up learning yourself. It’s a beautiful thing, really. Big thanks to everyone who has spent time with me this summer to for tutoring. I am so happy to have helped you get past even the tiniest road bump, it really means a lot to me, so thank you, thank, thank you!
